RIVER CALDER/SOWERBY BRIDGE/YORKSHIRE
Calderdale Council allows free fishing from the bridge below the canoe slalom course upstream to the cricket pavilion: about 400 yards of free fishing.
You’ll find some chub and the odd barbel there. Compared to smaller tributaries like the Colne, the Calder is a challenging river to fish.
However, it can also hold trout up to 8lbs and grayling over 3lbs, but productive areas can be very localised as well as heavily dependent on the river’s recent pollution history.
