RIVER KENT/KENDAL

River Kent/Kendal

Kendal, home of the eponymous castle and mint cake, offers visitors free fishing from the Victoria Bridge to 100 yards south of Nether Bridge, excluding the Gooseholme Weir area.

You can catch all the main game fish here; trout, sea trout and even salmon.

We suggest popping in to Carlson’s fishing shop in Kendal to get all the tips you’ll need and various bits of fishing tackle.

Kendal Town Council allows free fishing with a valid EA rod licence from the pool below Nether Bridge upstream to Victoria Bridge: about a mile of fishing. The Kent is south Cumbria’s main game fishing river, with hard-fighting wild trout which average around ¾ lb, and a few elusive specimens from 3 to 7lbs.  They also have salmon and sea trout too.  However, you needn’t just use flies here.  To quote the excellent Kendal website. “To maximize your chances of a successful catch, it’s important to use the right techniques. The River Kent is suitable for various fishing methods, including lure fishing, fly fishing, and worm fishing”.
