To the south of the county, the Thames provides some opportunities to fish a big river holding specimen coarse fish, whereas the western border of Middlesex is largely formed by the River Colne or the Colne Brook, which offer small river angling for the typical river coarse species, including barbel and chub.  

There are also a few free fishing spots within the county.
